While daddy and I were finishing up our pizza tonight, you came over to the coffee table, got a hold of a napkin, and promptly wiped your mouth with it. Then you crumpled it up and walked into the kitchen, and a few seconds later I heard the trash open and shut. Then you came walking back in as if to say "well, that's taken care of, what next?" Daddy hadn't entirely noticed what was going on, so I told him, and of course he laughed because you are so silly!
After dinner it was time to pick up toys, so daddy took you around and asked you to pick up various things. I was so surprised that you knew where everything went. You pushed your ride on toy over to its parking space by the lamp and parked it quite nicely out of the way. Your toy drum went right next to the fireplace, and you even carried your laptop over near the toy basket and set it on the sub speaker. The books all went on the shelf, the wooden pegs into their slots and the whole thing onto the shelf with the books, lego pieces in the wagon, and all the cars/trucks in the basket. Then we cheered and clapped once it was all picked up. Such a helper!

kisses for everyone!
Today you figured out how to climb in and out of the tub. You juuuust get your leg over the side, and then you slowly transfer your weight and sort of slip into the tub. You need some assistance from the toilet when you're getting out, but you're quite good at it. Every few times you climbed in today, you'd stop and talk to me for a little bit, making hand gestures, and then resume climbing in and out.
Tonight when daddy asked you where your nose was, you said quite clearly: "nose?" Then you pointed to his nose, and then reached over and pointed to my nose. So now we're working on mouth.
After dinner tonight you were on a running rampage as per usual. Except tonight you would come running over to daddy from the kitchen and blow a kiss ("mmmmm-aaaaa!") and then you would hold your hand up to daddy's face for him to blow a kiss too. Then you'd run back out into the kitchen, sometimes all the way into the living room, and then run back to daddy to blow more kisses. Must have gone on for 10 minutes.

nose?
So daddy's been working with you on where your nose is. Not that you need to know per se, we're just trying to teach you some things :-) When I went to pick you up from granmommy's house today, she said that for some reason she had mentioned your nose, or asked you where your nose was, and you awkwardly but clearly pointed to your nose. She was so surprised she asked you again and you did the same thing! So I asked you later on in the day and you put your finger right on it, and then put your finger on my nose. It really is rather cute.
Then this afternoon you were itching to get outside--and I don't blame you since we we've been cooped up inside with all of us being sick. So I fashioned a fence from chairs, and daddy propped up some heavy boxes too and then I brought your lawn mower outside. You went around in circles: on the concrete part by the deck, then over onto the grass and around back onto the concrete. Every time you came around again to get on the concrete, you had to tip the lawnmower back to get over the edging. It was so funny to watch! It was like you were tipping the lawn mower just like you've seen daddy do.

blow your nose
Since getting sick Thursday and ending up with the inevitable runny nose, you've figured out a way to help yourself out. But you don't quite have the timing down... Today as I've repeatedly wiped your nose and been blowing my own, the little wheels in your head have been turning. At one point this afternoon, I heard you making blowing sounds out of your nose, and then you came walking over to me with a ginormous snot wad coming out of your nose. I tried to show you how to do it when I had the tissue in front of your nose, but alas, you would not blow until I took the tissue away. It's happened several more times since then! And of course when you come over to me you're always trying to get at it with your lower lip... yuck! But so funny!
picking up toys
This afternoon we video chatted with nana for a long time. At one point she started playing some music you'd never heard and you just stood in front of the computer and stared, with your mouth kind of hanging slack. Then we started dancing and doing hand motions and you got a big kick out of that. So did Nana!
Tonight you picked up all your toys! Daddy would point to something and say "can you put that away?" and you would pick it up and put it right where it goes. He even stacked up a bunch of books for you and asked you to put them away, and you walked over, picked them all up pressed against your little chest, and carried them over to the bookcase--giggling and smiling to boot! You even knew where daddy's big long brewing spoon goes (behind the toy basket) and at one point were down on your belly looking for more shapes under the couch! The measuring cups all ended up in your cupboard in the kitchen, and the tuna cans from this morning's shopping trip made it into the pantry. Such a helper today!

Lost blanket
This morning at about 3:45, you started crying out of nowhere. Daddy got up to see what was going on. He found you on the floor in the corner between your bed and the wall. We figure you lost your blanket, got off the bed to find it, but then for whatever reason, couldn't make it back onto the bed with it. Daddy said that as soon as he opened the door, you were quiet, and he actually had trouble finding you!

Labor Day
This morning after breakfast you got your train and went back over to daddy's chair and started at it again! same determined, focused look on your face.
Daddy went out to mow the lawn in the late morning and you immediately got up on the couch to watch him out the front window. Then mommy opened the porch door so you could see him out there. You've been standing at the glass door watching him, holding your drumsticks, with one pajama pant leg scrunched up around your knee. You take a break from watching every once in a while to bang the drums and sing for a bit.
Mommy was at the church for a few hours today during your nap. You woke up around 3:30 crying, so Daddy went in to get you. But you didn't stop crying, and you kept yawning in the middle of crying, so after a few minutes, he decided you didn't want to be awake, so he put you back in. He said you whimpered for a minute, and then were quiet again. We let you sleep about 15 minutes later than usual after that episode. I came home around 4, and we peeked in to see how you were sleeping. Sideways at the head of the bed, wrapped in your blanket, with your feet sticking out and hanging off the edge of the bed.

all boy
Daddy took you for a walk on your tricycle today. He said you sang the whole way. Sure wish I knew what you were singing.
After dinner tonight you climbed up in daddy's chair and spent a good ten minutes driving your golf cart car back and forth across the placemat in front of you. you didn't make car noises or anything, you just very seriously and deliberately drove it back and forth until it was time to get ready for bed. No one's ever shown you that you should do that, you just started doing it all on your own. boys will be boys!

nope, not me
this morning you sang to yourself while carrying single lego bricks two at a time into daddy and mommy's room and putting them on the bed.
you've continued your crazy running ritual while mommy blows her hair dry. except now you've eliminated the squealing and you just hold your mouth open and squint your eyes as you come running in. lately you've been a terrible judge of how fast you're going and throw your arms up to try to slow yourself down, but mostly just end up whacking into the sink with your head. doesn't seem to phase you though!
this afternoon i left my iphone on the dresser. you were quiet, so i glanced in the bedroom from my desk to see what you were doing, and sure enough, you were reaching up to touch my phone. "Tiiiim..." I said. You jerked your head towards me, took a step away from the dresser, and put your hands behind your back. "what mom? I wasn't doing anything..."

get your groove on
Tonight you got to video chat with nana and grampa for the first time in a while. You were proud of your newfound skill of getting down off the chair after you climb up onto it. So you did it about 50 times for them. Talking and hand gesturing almost the whole time. Then you started adding in a run out to the dining room to say hi to daddy, or a lap around the couch before climbing back up in the chair again. You were breathing hard just from getting in and out of the chair!!
Then mommy took your shirt and pants off to start getting you ready for bed. When you came over to say bye to nana and grampa, you started dancing to the music in your head, and it was about the best and funniest you've ever danced! you were going crazy with arms and legs, and bouncing and stomping, topping it all off with a fake fall over. we were all laughing to the point of tears.
but then of course even though you were still seriously wound up, within five minutes of putting you to bed, you were completely quiet :-)

he's a maniac
Today was the first time you very clearly said "mommy." Makes me smile just thinking about it.
After dinner tonight, you ran around like crazy for half an hour almost nonstop. First you were sort of playing catch with dad--he would throw the ball out into the kitchen and you would run like mad to get, bring it back and roll it to me on the table. Then I would hand it back to daddy and the whole process over again.
When we got up to put the dishes away, you were played catch by yourself--throwing it from one side of the kitchen to the other and running after it. Then daddy walked out into the living room and laid down on the floor and as soon as you saw his feet, you dropped the ball, ran in and tackled him.
After you wrestled for several minutes, daddy got up and you ran to grab your popper, and then ran around the kitchen with it. All of a sudden, daddy stomped his foot in front of it, making you stop, and you laughed and whipped it around in a circle a few times and then took off again. As soon as you'd came back towards daddy, he'd stomp his foot, sending you into countless fits of laughter. One time you were whipping it around and it almost came up and hit you in the face, which startled you, so you lost your balance, fell on your bum, and then back onto your head. You of course started to cry, but only wanted daddy to hold you for about 20 seconds and then you were squirming to get down to the popper again, even though a few tears were still coming down your face.
While daddy cleaned up your toys and mommy went down to get laundry, you started running laps around the couch. I wasn't kidding when I said you ran almost nonstop from the end of dinner to bedtime!
We took you in to put your pjs on, and your head was all hot and you were kind of sweaty. When daddy picked you up off the changing table, he said you were still breathing hard :-) It's been about 20 minutes since we put you down, and you're still in there making loud but happy noises.
It's been a super fun evening with you.
